Serum Creatinine Level Renal Involvement Essential Underestimates Hypertensive in Elderly Patients with Hypertension

چکیده
It is well recognized that serum creatinine level provides a quick general assessment of renal function. However, we frequently encounter elderly hypertensive patients with renal involvement whose serum creatinine levels are within normal limits. The aim of this study was thus to determine whether serum creatinine level is a sensitive indicator of renal function in elderly hypertensive patients. Study groups were classified according to age: 82 elderly patients (aged 65 yr or older) and 98 middle-aged patients

Comparative Assessment of Neutrophil Gelatinase-Associated Lipocalin (NGAL) and Cystatin C as Early Biomarkers for Early Detection of Renal Failure in Patients with Hypertension
Background: Hypertension is one the most common causes of chronic kidney disease (CKD). One of the major concerns in hypertensive patients is early detection of renal disorders. In the past, serum creatinine (Scr) concentration was used as a marker of kidney function, but it proffers a late reflection of reduced glomerular filtration rate. Cystatin C and neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocal...
متن کاملAssociation Between High-density Lipoprotein Cholesterol and Renal Function in Elderly Hypertension
Few studies have yet investigated the possible association between high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) and kidney function in elderly patients with primary hypertension. Accordingly, the aim of the present study was to evaluate the relationship between HDL-C and kidney function in elderly hypertension. A total of 14,644 elderly hypertensive subjects were enrolled in our cross-sectional...
متن کاملHypertension as related to renal function in diabetes mellitus.
The relationships between blood pressure and renal function were investigated in 78 hypertensive patients with diabetes mellitus type I or II. Renal function was assessed by determining the glomerular filtration rate and the para-aminohippurate clearance in 32 and serum creatinine in 46 subjects. In the latter, the reciprocal serum creatinine, corrected for age and changing creatinine/insulin c...
متن کاملHow relevant and frequent is the presence of mild renal insufficiency in essential hypertension?
Recent analyses of the influence of renal function on the cardiovascular outcome in essential hypertensive patients have confirmed the relevance of the kidney in cardiovascular prognosis even in the initial stages of renal failure. The evaluation of renal function in clinical practice is based mainly on the finding of changes in serum creatinine, but the estimation of creatinine clearance or it...
متن کاملAssessment of kidney involvement.
Scleroderma renal crisis (SRC) represents the classic manifestation of kidney involvement in SSc. It particularly occurs in patients with early, rapidly progressive, diffuse skin involvement. Its detection requires the assessment of a few core set variables: arterial blood pressure, serum creatinine, and urinalysis. In clinical investigations SSc patients developing arterial hypertension after ...
